Das FlashPhone von Haefely Hipotronic wurde entwickelt, um den genauen Punkt der primären Kabelfehler zu lokalisieren. Sowohl magnetisch als auch akustisch werden während eines Störlichtbogens erzeugt. Zwischen diesen beiden Signalen tritt eine Zeitverzögerung auf, die auf dem FlashPhone als Zahl angezeigt wird. Die Intensität der Magnetfelder, die bei der Störung erzeugt werden, wird als magnetischer Signalbalken dargestellt;

Ein Mikrofon ist im Lieferumfang enthalten. Er kann mit einer Erdsonde für weiche und/oder ebene Bodenverhältnisse neben Beton oder Asphalt eingesetzt werden.
